I think it’s obvious that little girls are probably my favorites to photograph, so at the volleyball reunion a few weeks ago, I was excited to see a couple of sweet girls, both a few months younger than my son.
Here is a share of one of the little girls, A (I need to get permission from the other girl’s mom before I can share some of her!). A looked like Neapolitan ice cream, in her adorable pink, white & brown dress. I wish I’d gotten a good picture of her little pink baby Converse shoes – they were too much!

I’ve had this post rolling around in my head for a few months. It started because I was contacted by a friend of my sister’s to take family pictures for them…because her father had just been sent home to hospice, and they’d never had a family photo taken. I tried to help them but we couldn’t find a time that would work. The woman admitted that she knew they’d probably waiting too long. It made me SO SAD for them.
I don’t know how many people, after learning that I do this photography gig, tell me they’ve never had a family picture taken.
Maybe they mean they’ve never had professional family pictures taken? Or maybe they never actually get a picture of their family – at all. Regardless, here is my plea:
Get a family picture. Get a picture with your parents, if you are lucky enough to still have them in your life. Get pictures of your kids with their grandparents. If you are the mom with a camera who is *always* taking pictures – make sure you are in some of the pictures with your kids (I am super guilty of this!). In 30-40-50 years, no one will care that your hair didn’t look perfect or that you didn’t have makeup on. Get pictures with your siblings. I can’t remember the last time someone took a picture of me with my sister.
And I’m not telling you that you need to get family pictures so that you’ll call me to take them. If it means you have to hand your camera off to your cousin’s best friend at your next family reunion, and then you get your prints made at the corner store – GET THE FAMILY PICTURE.
Please. Thank you.
But if you want me to take your family picture, my fall mini-session dates will be announced soon.

I was busy last weekend – I had a senior session on Friday and then on Saturday I got to shoot the University of Michigan’s volleyball team’s scrimmage and season opening picnic (I was excused before the alumni gathering really got crazy…).
The scrimmage was so fun – I had to keep remembering that I was supposed to be taking pictures and not just watching. I wasn’t a big volleyball fan when I was in school (it used to hurt my wrists too much when I did try to play), but man-oh-man is it exciting to watch! It’s pretty fast-paced since there isn’t a lot of standing around waiting for something to happen…and there usually aren’t a bunch of TV timeouts :-)
I am still working on the gallery but wanted to share this one image from the scrimmage. I was on the floor for about five minutes trying to get the ball to sit just right and have the right activity in the background; apparently one of the fans was worried about me because I wasn’t really moving!
So – if you are in the area – be sure to check out Mark & Leisa and the Michigan Volleyball team this fall. GO BLUE!

I had the fun pleasure of shooting N’s senior pictures last weekend. She & her family live outside Chelsea with a trio of horses and some adorable barn cats (and a dog).
Shooting horses and people on horses is a little different than shooting kids ~ I wouldn’t say I’m afraid of horses, necessarily, but when N’s mom kept reminding the horses “I have flip-flops on”, I tried to make sure I stayed on my toes…literally.
Anywho – here is a little sampling of the pictures we got. N was a good sport with all my shenanigans and “just one more!” that I put her through and I am beyond pleased with how these turned out. She is so pretty!!
I’ve thrown in one of my faves of the family picture we did too :-)
This is my all-time favorite from the day. JUST GORGEOUS!!!
Thanks again, N & family – I had so much fun!

So, I had a session last night – two completely adorable & totally fun kids. A photographer’s dream – they were hamming it up, but still taking direction. Pose-able, yet relaxed.
I am BEYOND excited about these pictures, not to mention I got to hang out with the mom, who is a very special lady to me. Come to find out – we have a mutual love of Baskin Robbins peanut butter & chocolate ice cream. I mean, honestly!
Sorry to be a tease, but I can’t share the pictures because they are a gift for their dad.
In the words of my three-year-old: “So sorry.”
I promise to share when the gift has been given.
Stay tuned…

I was honored to be asked to travel east to photograph A & E’s wedding back in July. One of my favorite-ist things about doing photography is the opportunity to meet so many new people – it was SO much fun and A & E were both so great to work with.
A couple of funny memories. After the rehearsal, I mentioned to the bride that she and her sister sounds EXACTLY alike, and it was so weird to here E’s voice coming out of a different person. Um, turns out they are twins…
And I am not including this picture in the sneak peek, but wanted to remind E about when she asked her dad for some aspirin while she was getting her hair done (the hairstylist suggested taking some sort of pain reliever to counteract the effect of the 1,000,000 bobby pins she was hiding on her head). When dad came out with the aspirin and found out why she needed it, he kept rolling the bottle over & over trying to find the dosage for “bobby pins”. SO CUTE!!
Thanks again, A & E! Be on the lookout for the email with your gallery access information. Congratulations!

I am really lucky that I am able to take pictures of cute kids on the weekends, and this sweet girl was no exception. Princess M was a little shy at first, but once her mom brought out the princess wand, I was serenaded with all sorts of great princess songs!

Sorry about the wait for your sneak peek, B – I hope you & A enjoy these pictures (and the rest in your gallery) as much as I do!

How fun was this photo shoot? A sweet boat, great holiday weather, and this beautiful family – I couldn’t ask for more.
Shooting four people wakeboarding? Not easy. But we did get a couple of shots of everyone up at once (ie – no photoshopping)!

Your full gallery will be posted shortly, R & C – stay tuned!

A & E are getting married later this month (I get to shoot their wedding!) and we met up last week for some engagement pictures. They’ve only been in Ann Arbor for a couple of years, and had heard of the Arb but had never been.
The Arb, and this couple, didn’t disappoint. Aren’t they gorgeous? I am so excited to be a part of their wedding and look forward to capturing beautiful memories of their big day.
Thanks again, A & E – see you next week!

Another Hen/Fish sneak peek :-)
These cute kids were my models last week. I shot in the Arboretum for the first time as a “professional” and it was a great location. I’m doing an engagement session there later this week – I am so excited!
(I’ve known this kid since he was a baby and never knew his eyes were this green – his mom swears it is the shirt but holy COW they are gorgeous!)

22 & 11 – I’ll have the rest of your pictures up this week!
